Lake Moses fire responded to a call in Mount Vernon, IL. 3 firefighters have been diagnosed with lung cancer. We believe to be more cases are in our district and are currently working on this matter. Firefighters affected by this have been removed from service. We will not release names due to safety and privacy of these individuals.

Lake Moses Fire Protection Station 1, Benton Fire Department, Ewing-Northern Fire Protection, and Mount Vernon Fire Department responded to a call in West Frankfort. The call was for a Propane-Acetylene leakage, and we had a firefighter perish in this call, and our team sends condolences to the family of Lieutenant Buford. Franklin County Sheriff and Illinois Fire Marshal have an ongoing investigation into how this occurred. Many details will not be released at this time.

At Hour 0933 on 12/24/2025, LMFPD Station 1 has caught fire, taking the entire facility into flames. The responding districts/departments was Lake Moses Fire Protection District, Benton Fire Department, Ewing-Northern Fire Protection District, Mount Vernon Fire Department, Jefferson County Fire Protection #1, Woodlawn Fire Protection District, Waltonville Fire Protection #1 and #2, Marion Fire Department, West Frankfort Fire Department, West City Fire Department, and Sesser Fire Department responded to a structural fire within Benton, IL. The fire took no lives from our team but injured 2 of LMFPD's firefighters in the process. The total loss of Lake Moses Fire Protection District is estimated around $430,000,000.

This has closed all applications to LMFPD for cadets and firefighters.
